We're looking for a Mechatronics Systems Training Engineer to design and develop world-class technical training for Labman's engineers.

This is a unique opportunity to combine engineering expertise with learning and development, helping engineers build the skills and confidence needed to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and support complex laboratory automation systems.

You'll be responsible for creating practical training environments, developing engaging technical training materials, and ensuring knowledge is captured effectively across the business. Working closely with engineering, support, and operations teams, you'll help establish a structured and scalable approach to technical capability development at Labman.

This role is focused on designing and enabling training rather than delivering it directly. Initially, training will be delivered by experienced Labman colleagues, while you create the tools, systems, and environments that make learning effective.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop practical training rigs that support specific learning outcomes
  • Establish and maintain a dedicated technical training facility
  • Update training equipment to reflect current and legacy systems used by Labman customers
  • Lead projects to build and improve training rigs and learning environments
  • Create technical training materials covering maintenance, troubleshooting, and system operation
  • Develop training content for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation systems
  • Design practical exercises and assessment activities for different skill levels
  • Support the introduction of induction, foundation, and advanced training pathways
  • Ensure engineers have access to effective learning resources and hands-on training opportunities
  • Maintain training records and support training planning activities
  • Work with engineering and support teams to ensure training reflects current products and technologies
  • Prepare internal trainers and external providers to deliver technical training effectively
  • Capture and organise technical knowledge for new systems entering service
  • Gather feedback and continuously improve training materials, rigs, and learning experiences

What You'll Need

  • Strong technical background in laboratory automation, robotics, electromechanical systems, or similar engineering environments
  • Ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Experience creating technical documentation, guides, or training materials
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Passion for helping others develop technical skills and knowledge

Desirable Experience

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Technical support, service, or engineering roles
  • Laboratory automation systems
  • Robotics and automated machinery
  • Electrical and mechanical fault finding
  • Use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, CAN loggers, or similar diagnostic tools
  • CAD software, particularly SolidWorks
  • Adult learning principles or instructional design
  • Developing practical engineering training programmes
  • Knowledge management and technical knowledge capture

Company Benefits

  • 33 days annual holiday (rising to 38 over 5 years) including public holidays
  • Company profit share scheme
  • 5% employer pension contribution (no upper earnings cap)
  • Aviva Healthcare
  • Travel opportunities in various roles
  • Enhanced maternity pay (long service applicable)
  • Enhanced paternity leave
  • Access to counsellor, psychotherapist, and physiotherapist
  • CPD support and annual subscription to appropriate professional body covered
  • Free in-house gym, VR racing, clay pigeon shooting, old-school gaming competitions, squash courts, climbing wall, and social clubs, plus much more
