About the Role
At Labman Automation, we design and build bespoke robotic systems that enable science through technology. We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead day‑to‑day financial operations, reporting, controls and team development within a growing business. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a hands‑on role with ownership of financial operations, month‑end, audit, and continuous improvement across systems and processes, including Sage Intacct.
What You’ll Do
- Manage daily finance operations (AP, AR, Cashbook, General Ledger)
- Lead month‑end and year‑end close, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
- Maintain strong balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
- Oversee company expenses and credit card processes
- Lead and develop the finance team, promoting best practice and continuous improvement
- Own SOPs and finance documentation
- Work closely with internal systems and teams to maximise automation and system efficiency
- Lead external audit and statutory compliance requirements
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role
- CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified or final stages
- 10+ years' experience working in a finance team; at least 3-5 years experience managing or building a team
- Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts, year‑end statutory accounts, and audit packs
- Solid understanding of P&L and balance sheet; ownership of month‑end close processes and reporting timetables
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory/WIP, and margin analysis (manufacturing or project environments ideally with some knowledge of IAS2)
- Knowledge of UK tax: VAT, PAYE/NIC, corporation tax (with advisors where appropriate)
- Confident with financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations, and accounting policies
- Experience working with ERP systems and understanding the financial entry postings
- Advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, clear reconciliations)
- High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
- Proactive, improvement‑driven mindset
