La Bella is currently looking to hire an Staff Geologist/Environmental Scientist in the Birmingham, AL office of our Waste & Recycling division.
La Bella has over 1,900 employees in over 35 offices throughout 13 states.
Our Birmingham office provides focused, technical environmental consulting services with the resources of a larger-sized firm.
This is an opportunity for a smart and talented professional with enormous upside potential as part of a growing company.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit to join a dynamic team working on technically engaging, and impactful projects.
The successful candidate will perform field work including groundwater, soil, and surface water sampling, submit samples to a laboratory for analysis, manage and evaluate field and lab data, supervise contractors and drillers, and support the preparation of reports.
This individual will also support project managers on various projects.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a mix of office and field time.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B. S. degree in Geology or Environmental Science preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in a related environmental position
- 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environmental consulting team environment.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplined group of professionals.
- Strong communication skills (active listening, written, and verbal)
- Organized with strong attention to detail
- Highly motivated, with excellent client service skills and a positive attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Valid AL drivers' license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Computer skills including Microsoft office (word processing, database, spreadsheet) and Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam
- Field equipment use such as pumps, water quality meters, and landfill gas meters and/or the ability to learn the operation of the equipment with training.
- Basic soil and groundwater sampling techniques.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift and carry or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
- Move safely over uneven terrain.
- Traverse steep and irregular terrain
- Wear personal protective gear.
- Drive a passenger vehicle (field truck).
- Be comfortable with working outdoors, often in weather extremes (heat/cold/rain)
