The Council's Building Control section is committed to providing a quality assured customer led service in a competitive market. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to work within the Building Control team. Good communication skills, a commitment to team working and a positive attitude to the delivery of high-quality customer focused services are essential.

You will be an experienced Building Control Surveyor with proven knowledge of building control and a strong understanding of building regulations, particularly relating to fire safety. With the ability to deal with people at all levels, from a range of organisations, you will be open to new ideas, with the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing priorities to meet deadlines.

Corporate membership of either the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or the Association of Building Engineers is desirable. Registration for Building Control Professional (BCP) Competence Validation Assessment at band B or C is a requirement. Candidates must also possess a full valid driving licence.

Responsibilities include undertaking a broad range of Building Control duties including plan assessment and site inspections ranging from small domestic projects to multi-million pound commercial developments, as well as providing professional advice to customers. The role also involves dealing with dangerous structures, unauthorised work, demolitions, Safety at Sports Grounds and other regulatory functions. The team has several Apprentices and Technicians who are undertaking LABC qualifications and training. Providing support, training and mentoring to these team members, with other Senior Surveyors, will form part of this role.

Essential qualifications/skills include possessing corporate membership of either the Association of Building Engineers or the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or other appropriate qualification at degree level, having and maintaining all competencies Class 2a-f validation to deal with all buildings as mandated by Welsh Government, and having and maintaining registered status to deal with the above.

Desirable qualifications/skills include having a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Building Control.
