About the role
There’s more than one reason why we believe Central Bedfordshire is a great place to live and work. Our attractive market towns and beautiful villages surrounded by stunning countryside, all boosted by a prime location, great transport links and a high performing economy are all part of what makes us great. We work hard to enable Central Bedfordshire to grow and thrive in a safe and sustainable way. We want to make our area a great place to live and work, and somewhere companies choose to invest.
This is an opportunity for a Class 2 A Registered Building Control Surveyor to join our Building Control team and to help us deliver safe and compliant buildings. The work involves a varied case load of building control work, dealing with varied projects in urban and rural locations around the Council area. We offer a hybrid working environment with a blend of local office hubs, site work and home working.
In a supportive team environment, you will work closely with colleagues, less experienced team members, our regulatory partners and our applicants and deal with regulatory compliance, enforcement, dangerous structures and all aspects of Building Regulations. You will ideally have a degree (or equivalent qualification and experience) in Building Control Surveying or a related subject and be a member of a relevant professional institute. You will also have building control experience, strong communication skills and can show experience and evidence of working on a range of domestic projects in line with your registration.
We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements, but there is an expectation that the postholder will be able to regularly, probably daily, visit sites across the CBC area. Our aspiration is to be a truly flexible employer. We welcome discussion on location, hours and working pattern as part of the application process.
You will be expected to demonstrate how you meet the key accountabilities and competencies in this Recruitment Pack. You’ll work with our team to ensure building regulations and other legislation are followed when buildings are designed and constructed. A strong performer who loves what they do, you’ll work closely with developers, owners, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to give advice and enforce building regulations.
Join our team of experienced and qualified professionals and you’ll relish a varied role: from undertaking inspections of buildings, to vetting of applications in line with your classification. Committed to getting on with the task at hand, you’ll have a pragmatic and creative approach to problem solving together with a passion for customer service. Already qualified and registered to Classification 2 A-B, experience in building control across a range of building projects will enable you to play a key part in the delivery of our successful, high quality and competitive building control service.
