Our ambition is simple: to create a best-in-class local authority Building Control service which matches the scale, profile and aspirations of the city we serve. We are now seeking an experienced Class 2F Registered Building Inspector to join us as Principal Building Control Surveyor. This role is ideal for an experienced Building Control professional who wants to continue developing their technical expertise whilst helping shape the future of the profession. You will work on a varied portfolio of projects, act as a senior technical specialist within the service and support the development of less experienced colleagues, whilst remaining focused on professional Building Control practice rather than formal management responsibilities.

Responsibilities
As a Principal Building Control Surveyor, you will:
- Take responsibility for a varied portfolio of building control projects across residential, commercial, public sector and regeneration schemes.
- Assess Building Regulation applications and associated submissions for compliance with Building Regulations and related legislation.
- Undertake site inspections on a broad range of developments, including larger and more technically complex projects appropriate to your registration and experience.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to developers, architects, contractors and members of the public.
- Act as a senior technical specialist within the team, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues on technical matters.
- Mentor and support Building Control Officers, trainees and apprentices as they develop their professional competencies.
- Help maintain excellent relationships with developers, consultants and key clients across the city.
- Contribute to service improvement, innovation and the development of new ways of working.
- Work collaboratively with Planning, Highways, Housing and other professional disciplines to support high-quality development across Nottingham.
- Maintain and enhance your professional competence and registration in line with Building Safety Regulator requirements.
Essential qualifications/skills
- Registered Building Inspector Class 2F (minimum).
- Sound technical knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Experience assessing Building Regulation applications and undertaking site inspections across a range of building types.
- Ability to provide clear and practical technical advice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and deliver high-quality customer-focused outcomes.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining professional competence.
Desirable qualifications/skills
- Registration above Class 2F.
- Chartered membership of CABE, CIOB, RICS or a similar professional body.
- Experience working on larger or more technically challenging building projects.
- Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced surveyors.
- Experience contributing to service improvement or innovation projects.
- Experience of working within either a local authority or registered building control approver environment.
- Knowledge of modern construction methods and emerging building safety requirements.
