Nottingham City Council is investing significantly in its Building Control service. We are expanding our team, modernising our technology, improving our systems, and creating clear career pathways for staff. We are also preparing for the opportunities presented by Local Government Reorganisation and the continued growth of Nottingham as a major regional centre.
We are now looking for three Building Control Officers to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to work on a diverse and challenging range of projects, from domestic developments through to complex urban regeneration schemes, while playing a key role in protecting public safety. You'll join a supportive, forward-thinking service that values professional expertise and actively invests in the development of its people.
Responsibilities as a Building Control Officer include:
- Assess Building Regulation applications and associated submissions.
- Undertake site inspections to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to builders, architects, developers and members of the public.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and case files.
- Support the delivery of safe, sustainable and accessible buildings.
- Work collaboratively with planning, highways, housing, fire service and other professional partners.
- Maintain your professional registration and continue developing your technical expertise.
Essential qualifications/skills:
- Registered Building Inspector Class 2A (minimum).
- Good working knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Ability to undertake site inspections and assess compliance.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable qualifications/skills:
- Class 2B, 2C or higher RBI registration.
- Membership of CABE, CIOB, RICS or a similar professional body.
- Experience of commercial building projects.
- Experience of enforcement work, dangerous structures or demolitions.
- Knowledge of modern construction methods and building safety requirements.
- Experience using digital/mobile inspection systems.
