The Role

As Principal Building Control Surveyor, you will lead and oversee complex, high-profile building control projects across North Yorkshire, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements. You’ll guide a dynamic team of professionals, providing strategic leadership, shaping policy, and continuously improving service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Operational Excellence: Lead a talented team of building control professionals, driving high standards of service and performance, while ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements.
  • Complex Project Oversight: Take charge of large-scale, complex building control applications and projects, ensuring compliance with building regulations, and overseeing their successful delivery.
  • Enforcement & Regulatory Compliance: Lead investigations into dangerous structures and unauthorized works, implementing enforcement actions as necessary to maintain the safety and integrity of the built environment.
  • Team Development & Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to the building control team, fostering a culture of continuous professional development and high service delivery standards.
  • Strategic Influence & Innovation: Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices that enhance the effectiveness of the building control service and drive continuous improvement.

• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level
• Registered with the Building Safety Regulator to at least, Class 2A: Building Inspector as determined by the HSE Building Inspector Competency Framework (BICoF)

Corporate Member of a relevant professional body such as RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), CABE (Chartered Association of Building Engineers), CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) or equivalent.
