We're looking for Senior Registered Building Inspectors to take on a pivotal role within our Planning & Building Standards service. In this important position, you'll act in a senior capacity within our Building Control team, providing a comprehensive range of professional services for a designated area both within and beyond the Borough of Haringey. As well as plan checking and carrying out site inspections, the role also includes mentoring and supervising junior staff members, handling validations, and taking the lead on the determination of the more complex Building regulations applications. You will also be responsible for enforcement activities and dangerous structures inspections, both during the working day and as part of a rota for out of hours inspections. Haringey Building Control are also responsible for safety at Sports Grounds in the Borough, and offer technical safety advice and inspections for other licensed events in the Borough. Part of the role will also include assisting the BSR with applications on high-risk buildings and ensuring that their KPIs are met. As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you'll bring substantial relevant experience in the delivery and supervision of building control services, demonstrating a deep understanding of buildings within the scope of the Building Safety Regulator. You'll be registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 3 Categories G-H and Class 2 Categories A-F and ideally be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or possess equivalent demonstrable learning. You'll be a member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, ABE, CABE, or CIOB. Your excellent understanding of building regulations and processes will be critical, alongside your ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and technical information. In addition, you will be adept at implementing change and improvement processes, motivating others, and consistently producing high-quality work under pressure. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills are essential and will enable you to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, while your ability to build confident and trusting relationships will be key to engaging local communities and stakeholders. Furthermore, you'll be a natural at negotiating successfully and influencing outcomes with tact and diplomacy. Essential qualifications/skills
- Substantial relevant experience in the delivery and supervision of building control services and buildings within the scope of the Building Safety Regulator.
- Membership of RICS, ABE, CABE, CIOB or other relevant professional body.
- Registration with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 3 Categories G-H and Class 2 Categories A-F.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level.
- Specialist knowledge, skills and experience in making assessments and taking action regarding Safety at Sports Grounds, Event Licensing and dangerous structures.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and technical information.
- Excellent understanding of the regulations and processes for the implementation of building regulations.
- Good awareness of current issues and a working knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Ability to implement change and improvement processes including motivating others and successfully working under pressure and meeting deadlines, performance targets and produce a regular consistent output to work.
- Good verbal, written communication and presentation skills to a range of different audiences.
- Ability to deliver high quality services that are commercial, cost effective and provide excellent customer care.
- Understanding of project development, management and delivery including experience of managing contracts and projects to deliver effective commissioned outcomes.
- Sound numerical and IT skills, including experience in the application of planning related and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Microsoft packages.
- Capable in building confident and trusting relationships to engage local communities and other key stakeholders in all aspects of the delivery of service.
- Ability to negotiate successfully and influence outcomes acting with tact and diplomacy in all aspects of work.
