Lab8 has partnered with a mobile studio in London, who are on the look for a Server Engineer. This role focuses on designing, prototyping, and building server-side multiplayer systems for our successful mobile titles. It’s well suited to someone who enjoys owning their work end to end and thrives in high-load environments with complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Design, prototype, and develop server-side multiplayer systems for our games.
- Contribute across synchronous and asynchronous gameplay features, including tournaments, live events, matchmaking, leaderboards, DLC, and more.
- Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and other disciplines to tackle the challenges of delivering a high-quality, scalable, secure, and high-performance online experience as efficiently as possible.
- Help evolve our multiplayer services into innovative new areas across upcoming titles, leveraging modern technologies to create compelling online experiences for players.
- Build new online functionality that is robust, maintainable, and flexible, with scalability and rapid post-launch iteration in mind based on player feedback.
- Develop tools where needed to enable artists, designers, and customer support teams to manage and administer online services.
- Actively participate in design discussions to ensure technology is used to its full potential.
Requirements:
- Strong technical design and coding skills using modern web technologies and frameworks, such as JavaScript/TypeScript and/or C#/.NET, Node.js, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), Kubernetes, SQL and NoSQL databases, and Redis.
- Broad knowledge of server and network programming fundamentals, including database design, replication strategies, load balancing, reliable and unreliable messaging, latency optimisation, and security best practices.
- Proven commercial experience as a server, network, or backend developer, with a track record of working in high-load production environments.
- Unity experience would be a bonus!
