As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be part of an Agile, multidisciplinary team delivering modern digital services. You will design, build, and operate cloud environments and delivery pipelines that support frequent, reliable releases. You will be expected to deliver automated software components that form part of a DevOps toolchain, using modern tooling to develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments thereby putting automation at the heart of everything. You will support complex application ecosystems including microservices, serverless workloads, event-driven integrations (Kafka), and front-end applications, ensuring environments are secure, cost‑optimised, and compliant with organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, support, and manage multiple AWS environments, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimisation
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines (Git-based) across microservices, serverless (Lambda), frontend (React), event-driven integrations, and API gateway integrations (e.g., Kong)
- Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Cloudformation to provision consistent, repeatable environments
- Use helm to automate configuration, deployment, and operational workflows
- Operate and support Kubernetes platforms (e.g., EKS) and containerised workloads
- Build and deploy the application services using AWS serverless services like Lambda, ECS, etc.
- Apply strong security practices including IAM role management, MFA, secrets management, encryption, and least‑privilege access for development teams
- Implement monitoring, alerting, logging and operational dashboards to support reliability and observability
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure/pipeline issues and drive root‑cause fixes and preventative improvements
- Collaborate with development teams to embed automation, quality gates, and release readiness practices
- Ensure cloud resources are correctly tagged and aligned to FinOps standards for cost tracking and governance
- Document and continuously improve DevOps standards, patterns, and ways of working
Key Skills & Experience:
- Deep hands‑on experience with AWS infrastructure, including multi‑environment setup, networking (VPC, PrivateLink, Transit Gateway), and serverless services
- Strong experience in Kubernetes in operating/supporting Kubernetes platforms (EKS preferred)
- Strong expertise using Terraform, Helm, Ansible in delivering Infrastructure as Code
- Very good experience in Ansible for automation for configuration management and operational workflows
- Strong experience in identity and access management (IAM roles, MFA, access controls) in cloud environments
- Experience supporting diverse application stacks including React front‑end, microservices, serverless (Lambda), and event‑driven systems (Kafka)
- Strong experience managing CI/CD pipelines across distributed systems and cloud‑native architecture
- Awareness of accessibility requirements (e.g., WCAG standards) in front‑end delivery environments
- Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies in Agile environments
- Solid Linux/Unix skills and scripting capability (automation mindset) and experience of Docker/container tooling and registry management
- Experience with monitoring/observability tooling (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana or equivalent)
- Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud infrastructure, networking, and pipeline issues
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
- Basic understanding of AI/ML based testing approaches (e.g. test optimisation, intelligent test selection, or data driven testing)
- Experience working in UK Public Sector or with government clients
- Exposure to Azure and/or Azure Pipelines
- Event‑driven / integration tooling exposure (e.g., Kafka)
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid working environment
- Experience with API gateways such as Kong (Enterprise Edition)
- Exposure to integration patterns involving ETL processes or RPA systems
