We are looking for a versatile Senior Systems Infrastructure Engineer who thrives on variety. You won’t be siloed into a single technology; instead, you’ll oversee a complex, high-security ecosystem spanning Windows, Linux, and modern Software-Defined and Cloud Data Centres. You are the “Safe Pair of Hands” for our infrastructure—capable of designing a network, automating a server build, and troubleshooting a production outage with equal precision. This role is twofold, working on internal cutting-edge R&D projects alongside customer-facing delivery responsibilities for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Stack Infrastructure: Support the design, lead deployments, support the lifecycle management of high-availability servers, storage, and networking.
- Hybrid Environment Management: Administer a diverse production estate, ensuring seamless interoperability between Windows and Linux platforms.
- Infrastructure as Code: Drive the shift toward automated deployments using tools such as Terraform and Ansible to reduce manual configuration.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Act as the final point of escalation for complex system defects, utilising deep-dive forensics across both physical hardware and digital layers.
- Virtualisation Oversight: Maintain and optimise our virtualised environments (vSphere/vSAN) as part of a wider software-defined strategy.
What you'll Bring
- Broad Systems Expertise: Deep Wintel knowledge (Active Directory, PowerShell, DNS/DHCP) combined with a solid foundation in Linux.
- Automation-First Mindset: Experience (or a strong desire) to work with Configuration Management and IaC tools.
- Hardware & Networking: A “builder” mentality—capable of configuring hardware and understanding the underlying network fabric (switching, routing, security).
- Senior Leadership: The ability to take a project from a blank whiteboard to a fully documented production reality.
This role will ideally need a high level of security clearance.
Job type: Full-time, permanent role within a stable, high-growth sector.
Balance: A genuine hybrid working model based in Basingstoke and the Southeast. Potential for international travel.
Perks: 25 days leave, private medical cover and a competitive pension.
