Data Centre Engineer - Location Grays or Stevenage
Must have an Active SC Clearance
This is an onsite, hands-on Data Centre Engineer position requiring local capability due to the physical infrastructure, security requirements and specialist nature of the work.
Data Centre Engineer Responsibilities
Install, remove and decommission rack-mounted server, storage and infrastructure equipment.
Trace, disconnect and manage Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SAN and power connectivity.
Support the safe decommissioning of enterprise server and storage infrastructure.
Handle HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media in line with security procedures.
Follow secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.
Maintain accurate hardware asset, inventory and CMDB records.
Work from rack elevations, asset lists, implementation plans and technical documentation.
Complete activities through formal change-control and change-management processes.
Identify unexpected dependencies or discrepancies and escalate before proceeding without authorisation.
Maintain accurate documentation throughout installation and decommissioning activities.
Data Centre Engineer Skills and Experience
Proven hands-on experience working within live data centre environments.
Previous server, storage or infrastructure decommissioning experience.
Strong practical knowledge of enterprise server and storage hardware.
Experience installing and removing rack-mounted equipment.
Experience tracing Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SAN and power connectivity.
Understanding of enterprise storage infrastructure and associated cabling.
Experience securely handling HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media.
Knowledge of secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.
Experience maintaining hardware asset and inventory records.
Experience using CMDB or IT asset-management systems.
Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to equipment identification.
Ability to work independently while following defined technical and security procedures.
