Portfolio Manager – Business and Technology Transformation

Location: London (Victoria) / Midlands (Hybrid)
Salary: £100,000 – £120,000 + benefits

About the Role

Our client is undergoing a major transformation of its global technology landscape, ensuring alignment with business strategy and delivering measurable outcomes. As Portfolio Manager, you will lead and oversee diverse technology portfolios-including cloud transformation, cybersecurity enhancements, data modernisation, and fintech product development-driving execution across IT and business-led initiatives.

This role demands expertise in program leadership, vendor management, strategic delivery, and change management. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, including the Group CTO, to oversee governance, risk management, budgeting, and the adoption of best practices across programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Leadership – Own the portfolio plan, budget, and scope, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Strategic Prioritisation – Manage competing objectives, dependencies, and risks to safeguard delivery.

  • Stakeholder Engagement – Work closely with senior leadership and business units to develop vision, business cases, and strategic roadmaps.

  • Governance & Reporting – Establish and run effective governance frameworks, providing structured reporting and quality assurance checks.

  • Program & Project Oversight – Ensure effective delivery of IT and business-led projects, coaching project managers and teams where necessary.

  • Change Management – Direct senior stakeholder communications and drive adoption of changes within the business to realise long-term benefits.

  • Vendor & Resource Management – Oversee third-party relationships, ensure cost-effective vendor engagement, and optimise internal resource allocation.

  • Financial Oversight – Manage portfolio budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maximising return on investment.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading major IT portfolios in a financial services or fintech environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, engaging with C-level executives and cross-functional teams.

  • Expertise in program governance, risk management, and budget oversight.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.

  • Experience working with Agile, DevOps, and product-led delivery models.

  • Strong knowledge of vendor management and third-party service contracts.

  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and leading teams to drive program success.

  • Hands-on experience in quality assurance & program health checks to ensure governance best practices.

Preferred:

  • Experience in cloud transformation initiatives (AWS, Azure, or multi-cloud strategies).

  • Understanding of automation, event-driven architecture, and real-time data processing.

  • Proficiency in Confluence, Jira, and automation tools for portfolio tracking.

  • Knowledge of MS Teams automation, Forms, and basic Jira Query Language (JQL) for streamlining data collection and reporting.

  • Experience in implementing modern portfolio management tools and methodologies to improve decision-making and efficiency.
