My client is seeking an experienced engineer to join their core infrastructure team, collaborating closely with various IT departments to enhance the efficiency of our Core Platforms environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and manage the organisation’s Cloud, Storage & Data Centre infrastructure, adhering to group standards and audit requirements.
- Assist in the design and implementation of Data Centres, ensuring high availability and robust disaster recovery provisions.
- Manage Linux servers and software installations, utilizing automation tools where possible.
- Configure and oversee Data Protection platforms, including Commvault, Dell EMC Networker, and Zerto.
- Collaborate with DBA, Network, Application, Systems, and Service Desk teams on projects, migrations, upgrades, and architectural activities.
- Conduct regular Disaster Recovery testing, validating Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and ensuring up-to-date DR procedures.
- Perform system maintenance, upgrades, performance monitoring, capacity planning, and compute/storage management with minimal disruption.
- Evaluate and implement patches, service packs, and upgrades, ensuring all dependencies and approvals are addressed.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and diagrams for all systems, networks, and communications.
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota as required.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in Data Centre, SAN Storage, Cloud, and Linux technologies.
- Assess and recommend new infrastructure technologies, both on-premise and in the Cloud.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional training and certifications.
- Extensive experience with Red Hat Linux, including administration, setup, and building new Linux VMs.
- Proficiency in managing Hypervisors, such as VMware and Oracle Linux VM.
- Experience with SAN Storage Systems, Fibre Channel Switches, SAN Zoning, and IP-based Storage.
- In-depth knowledge of Data Protection Software, including Commvault, Dell EMC Networker, and Zerto.
- Strong technical background with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios, Grafana, and Greylog.
- Experience following ITIL-based Change and Problem Management processes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ITIL Foundation.
- Certifications in Red Hat Linux, VMware, or other relevant technologies.
