L3Harris is seeking a highly skilled Welder / Fabricator to join our Norfolk, VA team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding processes, capable of working with aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. This role requires the ability to read and interpret tight tolerance drawings and perform fixturing and setup of parts using precision welding tables. In addition to welding, some assembly work will be required.
Essential Functions:
- Welding: Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on various metals, including aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
- Fabrication: Fabricate structures and machined components according to specifications.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret tight tolerance drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
- Fixturing and Setup: Use precision welding tables and fixturing to set up parts for welding.
- Assembly Work: Perform assembly tasks as needed in addition to welding duties.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other departments to achieve project goals.
- Quality Standards: Maintain general knowledge of workmanship to military standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or trade school certifications in welding.
- Demonstrated strong foundational knowledge and practical skills in welding techniques.
- Ability to pass a 3G plate test in all positions for aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
- Strong proficiency in TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with tight tolerances.
- Experience with fixturing and setting up parts using precision welding tables.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Team player with strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of most metal types used for fabrication (Steel, Stainless, Aluminum, Monel, k500).
