The successful candidate will partner closely with the Vice President of Business Development for the Maritime Sector and the Vice President/General Manager of Global Systems, as well as government relations, technical teams, and functional organizations. This role is responsible for driving strategic growth by engaging customers, identifying new business opportunities, and supporting corporate and segment-level strategic initiatives. This position will lead the global Business Development team for the Global Systems Division and oversee all business development activities across the division. The candidate will manage multiple growth campaigns, develop and execute a global business strategy, and build targeted regional and partnership-focused plans. A key objective is to protect and expand current international maritime franchises while positioning the organization for future global opportunities.
Essential Functions:
- Lead initiatives associated with all new business growth areas in the Global Systems Division.
- Support Global Systems Division objectives and participate as an active member of Division team.
- Serve as liaison to Sector growth initiatives representing Global Systems interests.
- Establish strong and intimate relationships with key international regional customers.
- Identify new and adjacent markets, unmet customer needs and opportunities to expand existing programs/products.
- Allocate and recommend discretionary resources as needed to shape and win opportunities and achieve financial goals.
- Prioritise campaign engagements leveraging Senior Management participation.
- Support collection of competitive intelligence and information and win strategy development to enhance L3Harris understanding of customers and competitor strategies.
- Create and foster a business acumen culture that embraces a strategic, proactive approach to support business area leaders with identifying, actively pursuing and closing new business.
- Collaborate with BD teammates including marketing communications, business development leaders, and capture teams.
- Support new opportunity qualification process including “connect-the-dots” across other L3Harris sectors/divisions to ensure we provide best value to customers.
- Embrace a culture of “continuous learning” to improve our understanding of the technical drivers our existing and potential new customers seek to improve their mission capabilities.
- Effectively translate technical understanding of our products and technology for purposes of customer communication and engagement.
- Estimate and manage new business funds used to pursue new business opportunities.
- Participate in strategic planning for internal research and development.
- Execute campaign strategies supporting business capture planning.
- Lead/support business acquisition process milestone/gate reviews; to include opportunity identification, qualification, pursuit, pre-proposal, and proposal processes.
- Manage the Global Systems Division’s opportunity pipeline.
- Organise participation in forums/conferences to further position L3Harris as a thought leader in the global Maritime industry related to specific strategic opportunities.
- Act as a change agent for the business, ensuring strategies and campaigns are mission and customer focused.
- Manage people, their work products, and professional development with the end state of new business growth for the Global System’s Division.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of 15 years of experience or post graduate degree and 13 years of experience in the business development arena.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience leading new business pursuits.
- Experience with ship and/or boat builders in international locations.
- Experience engaging with senior executives at government agencies, major prime contractors, and commercial companies.
- Established contacts within the International Maritime Communities.
- Understanding and familiarity with Maritime International markets.
- Demonstrated understanding of International Maritime mission lifecycles, including requirements development, system design and architecture, and international systems operations.
- Must work independently under limited supervision.
- Ability to lead and develop relationships with geographically dispersed people.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to Travel – up to 50%.
