Company Description: L2 Business Consulting Limited is a small medium enterprise (SME) based in North Shields near Newcastle upon Tyne but operating across the UK, Republic of Ireland and Internationally, providing technical consultancy advice to the nuclear, oil/gas, manufacturing, FMCG, veterinary, medical, transport/logistics and academic sectors. Our primary consultancy service is focused on radiation protection including appointment as Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) under the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) to a large variety of clients across various sectors. Job Description: We are seeking to recruit up to two x Assistant Health Physicist/Health Physicists to join our growing RPA Body team. You will have some initial experience in radiation protection and will be looking to gain further experience across multiple sectors as part of a dynamic and dedicated team. You will work with an experienced Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) who will act as mentor and provide on the job training and support. In addition, we will fund the externally provided and recognised formal postgraduate training needed to help you gain further knowledge, experience and mentor you to gain professional recognition as a member of the Society of Radiological Protection, gain accreditation as a Radiation Protection Adviser via RPA2000 and eventually Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP).
The post holder will be responsible for providing technical support to a range of clients including:
- Undertaking site inspection visits
- Producing technical reports
- Undertaking calculations
- Reviewing client documentation
- Producing procedures
- Reviewing the results of radiological surveys
- Reviewing personal dosimetry results
- Undertaking radiation risk assessments
- Undertaking predicted dose assessments
- Producing radiological design basis for new facilities
Alongside this you will also provide advice to clients on Environmental Permitting relating to sealed radioactive sources, unsealed radioactive sources and radioactive waste including making Radioactive Substances Activities (RSA) Environmental Permit applications for clients in the nuclear and non-nuclear sectors and supporting them developing suitable Environment Dose Assessments, BAT Cases and Management Arrangements. You will also provide advice to duty holders involved with the Transport of Radioactive Materials.
Qualifications and Requirements: You will need a relevant science degree such as radiation protection, chemistry, physics, biology or environmental science. You must have current permanent right to live and work in the UK (e.g. British Citizenship, Indefinite Leave to Remain or Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme). The post holder must hold a UK driving licence. You will have some knowledge and experience of working in radiation protection relating to ionising radiations at a basic or intermediate level. Experience of effectively working with a range of office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and using video communication platforms.
