We are looking for an experienced Product Developer to join our team in Nottingham. You will drive and organise the approval of prototypes for Menswear, through liaison with designers and the wider team involved. The role requires someone who is very methodical and thorough, to chase samples from manufacturers, adhering to Paul Smith guidelines, whilst able to assist with all technical aspects of the garments from the development and sampling stages through to the production. We are looking for someone with menswear tailoring knowledge with some menswear structured/woven garment experience.
The Role
- Translate illustrations and design concepts into CAD drawings / spec packages through communication with designers, pattern cutters and manufacturers.
- Ensure each garment maintains the quality and integrity of a Paul Smith product for both sampling and production.
- Drive a timely execution at every stage of development, working closely with manufacturers to deliver high-quality outcomes on schedule.
- Review prototypes and samples in fit sessions with the designers, making accurate notes in relation to each garment’s construction and fit.
- Alter and update technical construction details as required and provide an accurate record on each style for both grading and company history information within the deadline set.
- Maintain and update the development calendar, sample tracker and documentation across nominated product category.
- Provide actionable feedback to manufacturers, to approve samples ahead of production / pre‑production meetings.
- Organise any re‑sampling of styles where required prior to grading or production commencing. Improve upon specific technical problems and inform relevant teams.
- Liaise with manufacturers and the pattern room; working within grade specification / tolerance set for Paul Smith Ltd production.
- Provide complete support and continual contact with manufacturers, which should be maintained throughout the production season. Full Quality/Audits must be implemented when required and maintained, reporting back to both the Head of Product Development / Head of Production.
- Elevate product quality, by being aware of specific factory equipment and restrictions.
Your Skills And Experience
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Competent user of Corel DRAW, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
- Credible technical experience in a Menswear role.
- Menswear tailoring knowledge.
- Menswear structured/woven garment experience.
- Proven experience of translating design sketches into workable technical construction notes and diagrams.
- Technical understanding of product construction.
- Proven experience of constructing prototypes made to Designer, Pattern and factory requirements.
