L-Pac Packaging is an independently owned packaging distribution business operating from two locations in Durham and Liverpool. We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our packaging distribution business. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that goes beyond traditional purchasing, requiring a balance of supply chain expertise, sales support, and strategic commercial awareness.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing supplier relationships, navigating complex supply chains, and supporting business growth through value-driven solutions for customers.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and manage the end-to-end supply chain, ensuring continuity of supply and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and manage day-to-day stock control, ensuring optimal inventory levels.
- Work closely with the sales team as a “front of house” commercial lead, supporting customer relationships.
- Build, maintain, and develop strong relationships with suppliers, demonstrating excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proactively manage and resolve supply chain challenges, particularly during volatile or constrained market conditions.
- Apply commercial awareness to purchasing decisions, balancing cost, service, and strategic objectives.
- Lead cost negotiations with suppliers, including pricing structures, rebates, and long-term agreements.
- Contribute to business growth by identifying and sourcing value-added solutions for customers.
- Collaborate across the team to ensure alignment—fostering a unified, team-oriented approach rather than departmental functions.
- Take a proactive, solution-focused approach to forecasting and procurement, thinking beyond standard purchasing processes.
- Implement import/export activities and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Maintain strong awareness of global supply markets, including raw material trends and risks.
- Proven experience in a commercial, purchasing, or supply chain role within the packaging industry (distribution experience highly desirable).
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills and financial awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to manage supply chain disruptions and deliver effective solutions.
- Ability to operate both strategically and operationally in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive problem-solver with the ability to think beyond conventional processes.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word and particularly Excel.
- Confidence to speak up, suggest improvements and identify efficiencies within the business.
