The Role

Mainframe Engineers at Kyndryl are project-based subject matter experts in infrastructure, skilled at analysis, documenting and diagramming for hand-off, offering timely solutions, and solving complex problems. This is a hands-on role where your understanding of how a system interacts with its environment will be valuable to clients.

There are two halves to this role: (1) contributing to current projects by analyzing problems, offering solutions, testing, modifying, automating, and integrating systems; and (2) long-range strategic planning of IT infrastructure and operational execution. This role isn\\\’t limited to a single platform, so you\\\’ll gain variety and growth at Kyndryl.

You\\\’ll be involved early to offer solutions, assess feasibility, and identify technical and timeline risks upfront. This involves balancing client expectations with internal challenges, offering opportunities to make a difference, and earning client recognition for your contributions.

This is a project-based role with deep involvement throughout a project\\\’s lifespan, and opportunities to work closely with Architects, Technicians, and PMs. Regardless of experience, you\\\’ll find opportunities and support for growth.

There are opportunities to gain certifications and grow as a Cloud Hyperscaler. Many engineers pursue paths toward Architect or Distinguished Engineer, with opportunities to advance at multiple skill levels.

Required Technical and Professional Experience

• Deep expertise within specific technology domain areas (e.g., software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics)
• Enterprise IT application experience
• Hands-on experience in at least one of the following: software development, DevOps engineering, systems administration, or systems architecture in the public cloud (AWS)
• In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience driving engineering solutions and working across teams
• Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce conclusions and responses
• Effective verbal and written communication
• Strong process improvement experience

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• Knowledge of AWS and Azure with experience in cloud hosting architectures
• Strong judgment and decision-making abilities
• Familiar with a variety of IT concepts, practices, and procedures
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for production of precise technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
• Ability to analyze strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
