You'll play a key role in shaping the future of the Ecology business, building and developing high-performing teams, strengthening client relationships and delivering major environmental and infrastructure projects. The opportunity:

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership across the Ecology business, ensuring technical excellence, quality assurance and compliance with UK environmental legislation.
  • Lead and oversee complex ecological projects, including BNG, EcIA, HRA, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and major infrastructure developments.
  • Develop and execute regional growth strategies, driving business development, new client acquisition, revenue and profitability.
  • Build, mentor and lead high-performing teams of ecologists, senior ecologists, principal ecologists and ecology managers.
  • Lead major bids, tenders and framework opportunities, collaborating with multidisciplinary planning, landscape and environmental consultancy teams.

About You

  • You have extensive experience in ecological consultancy or environmental consultancy, ideally operating as a Technical Director, Ecology Director, Director of Ecology, Head of Ecology or Associate Director.
  • Strong technical expertise in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) and UK planning and environmental legislation.
  • Proven experience leading complex ecological projects, ideally including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), Development Consent Orders (DCOs) or major development schemes.
  • Demonstrable success in team leadership, business development, client relationship management and commercial growth.
  • Degree or equivalent in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline, full CIEEM membership (MCIEEM) and a full UK driving licence. Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) or Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) status would be advantageous.
