We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Digital Farming New Technologies Specialist to drive the implementation, adoption, and maintenance of new technologies across our station network in the UK and in the USA. This role focuses on ensuring the effective use of new field technologies to create value for KWS. The position is to be filled with a permanent contract and is full-time, located in Thriplow, near Cambridge in the UK.
Responsibilities
- Plan, introduce, and implement precision agriculture technologies (e.g., FieldExplorer, Phenotyping, Field Machinery, NIRS, Environment) within KWS fields.
- High presence in research fields to support users, solve problems, identify opportunities and foster close collaboration.
- Network within and beyond the station landscape to identify synergies in the region and across departments.
- Serve as a consultant for new technologies, assisting with cost and investment planning.
- Organize local technology tests and manage country-specific permissions in collaboration with public agencies.
- Enhance user capabilities by providing regular training, technical expertise, and support materials for field activities across all crops. Maintain a strong field presence.
- Monitor technology adoption and usage in collaboration with key stakeholders (station managers, station experts, developers, and other functions).
- Troubleshoot and main contact with internal developers and external providers particularly during sowing, season management, and harvesting.
Your Profile
- University degree in agricultural engineering, agronomy, or a university degree in machinery engineering with a strong affinity for the agriculture industry.
- Knowledge and experience of agricultural equipment and steering systems (e.g., tractors, planters, harvesters).
- Experience with GIS, field mapping, drones, and other digital farming technologies.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% (to our stations in the USA and be present in field activities in the UK and in the USA).
- Fluency in English.
- Experience in training and supporting staff.
- Basic leadership skills to moderate workshops with end-users.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ideally, basic knowledge of process improvement and project management.
