AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INSTRUCTOR

POSITION TYPE: Non-regular Type 1 contract

POSITION START: ASAP

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

The Faculty of Trades and Technology is seeking a Non-regular Type 1 Automotive Service Technician instructor to deliver short-term Foundation and Apprenticeship training, which may extend from a single day to several weeks or months.

This position would suit:

  • An instructor living in the lower mainland seeking part-time, on-call, or scheduled employment,
  • An individual who is (or wishes to be) semi-retired, or
  • An individual interested in sharing their experience to guide and train future tradespeople.

This instructor will work with a team of faculty, independently engaging with students in a classroom setting, and managing projects and instruction in a fully equipped Automotive shop. Responsibilities include familiarizing with established curricula, the online training management system, and preparing for classroom and exam assessments outside of student contact hours.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As part of a faculty team, the instructor will work independently with students in classroom and practical shop environments. Familiarity with curriculum, online training systems, and assessment preparation is required outside contact hours. For detailed working conditions, refer to Article 12 of the Kwantlen Faculty Association (KFA) Collective Agreement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A BC Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification with Interprovincial Red Seal (IP RSE), or an equivalent from another jurisdiction.
  • At least five years of diverse experience as an automotive repair journeyperson.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Effective communication skills with students are essential.
  • Previous instructional experience is an asset.

SALARY INFORMATION: Placement on the salary scale depends on education level and relevant teaching experience. Salary progression is based on FTE and employment status.
