Role Overview
The Data Architect is responsible for design, development, and maintenance of the organization’s data architecture. This role ensures that data is high-quality, consistent, secure, well-structured, and effectively utilized across systems and processes. The Data Architect collaborates closely with software developers, business analysts, data analysts, and database administrators to design data models, integrations, and data flows. This role will be a critical part of our project team and working on a global, enterprise-level, high-budget project delivered over the next 2 years.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the enterprise data architecture, including data models, standards, and principles.
- Define and manage logical and physical data models in line with business and technical requirements.
- Design data flows, integration layers, and interfaces between systems (ETL/ELT processes, APIs, message queues).
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of data warehouses, data lakes, and analytical platforms.
- Implement data governance principles – management of data domains, metadata, data quality, and reference data.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure data protection and GDPR compliance.
- Support the development of data strategy and data culture across the organization.
- Document data structures, standards, and methodologies.
- Provide expert guidance to projects in the area of data layer design.
Technical
- Strong knowledge of data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical; 3NF, star schema, snowflake).
- Expertise with relational databases (MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.) and modern data platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., SSIS, Talend, Informatica, dbt, Synapse, Data Factory).
- Familiarity with data governance, master data management (MDM), and metadata management.
- Understanding of integration architectures (REST, SOAP, messaging, event streaming – e.g., Kafka).
- Advantage: experience with data modeling tools (Erwin, PowerDesigner, ArchiMate, Enterprise Architect, dbdiagram.io, PlantUML).
- Advantage: familiarity with BI and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
General
- Strong analytical and systems thinking.
- Ability to design scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience in leading or coordinating data-related projects is an advantage.
