Joining us on a full-time, permanent, and hybrid working basis, you will be the authority on all legal matters concerning Kumon within the UK & Ireland. This role demands open, candid, and constant communication between board and counsel; a partnership that welcomes, alongside technical expertise, creative solutions, and executive advice.
Ideally, your capabilities will include:
- Providing appropriate guidance to ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation
- Interpreting and structuring franchise agreements; in particular, renewals, intellectual property, and relevant precedents
- Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts such as CDAs and PV agreements
- Writing up of terms and conditions documents
- Appraising commercial agreements
- Litigating on franchisee debt, drafting particulars of claim and defence documents
- Managing GDPR and data protection, including subject access requests
The pace of technological innovation is changing the way that we work and do business, as demand for digital products and services increases, so does the need for the strategic guidance from counsel. To support your induction, it is possible to have your line management responsibilities to the Legal Team Administrator and Junior Legal Counsel temporarily redirected, if necessary.
You must:
- Be a qualified Solicitor, with two years of post-qualifying experience
- Possess a valid practising certificate showing that you are a member of the Law Society and therefore regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
- Have UK experience and be in the process of conversion, if you qualified as a Lawyer overseas.

- Stage 2 - Orientation Meeting; including proficiency tests in Maths, English, and Aptitude
