Job Description: Purpose of the Role: As part of the Health & Safety Apprenticeship you will work and develop to become a Safety, health and environment (SHE) Technician within the business, working to support the day to day running of the team, and their associated activities from conception through to completion, delivering work that meets the Teams requirements and objectives.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum grades required for the place of study for your Apprenticeship
  • Show an interest and drive to be part of the Rail Industry and Colas Rail
  • Be comfortable with working nights and weekends
  • Work independently and in a team using your own initiative to deliver successfully
  • Demonstrate the Behaviours within our Leadership Essentials Framework

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of Safety in leading and delivering successful projects/contracts, safely, on time and within budget.
  • Deliver against the competency pathway required for the SHE Technician Apprentice.
  • Develop People management skills.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of your business unit.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction both internal and external are delivered at all times, work in a collaborative manner, engage regularly with stakeholders and ensure they are continually updated on progress.
  • Ensure best safety practices are being utilised during all office/site/depot/machine activities and any non-compliant materials or workmanship is reported following the correct process.
  • Ensure contracted works do not compromise the safe operation of the Railway system and that of the safety of passengers, staff and public.
  • Support the project manager/delivery manager/operations manager in all matters related to the successful delivery of the project/contract.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of our contracts.
  • Work with the team to ensure that everyone works in a collaborative, open and honest manner with all stakeholders – liaising regularly with subcontractors, client and any relevant third parties where required.
  • Attend all the relevant Apprenticeship Training and Development Training for your pathway, ensuring the learning gets delivered and implemented in the workplace.
  • Complete any apprentice relevant activities and initiatives when requested.
  • Meet the operational requirements as the organisation may change from time to time.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
