YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Plant & Equipment and matrixed to the Data & Digital Innovation Manager, the VIE Plant & Equipment Data & Performance Graduate will support the UK Plant & Equipment function in improving operational efficiency, asset performance, and data‑driven decision making across the business, through the systematic use of Colas’s suite of digital tools, telematics systems, and processes related to equipment asset management and performance. Working closely with Plant & Transport Managers, Workshop Teams, and Operational Teams, the role will focus on the deployment, adoption, and optimisation of digital tools, maintenance systems, ERP, telematics systems and performance reporting. The graduate will combine technical understanding of equipment and operations with data analytics and digital capability to drive improvements in equipment availability, utilisation, productivity, cost control, and sustainability. The role provides exposure to both field operations and digital transformation, supporting Colas’ ambition to embed a proactive, insight‑led, and performance‑driven equipment culture; some travel may be required.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • Support the rollout and adoption of plant and equipment digital tools across the UK, (One Colas Equipment, e‑Fleet, e‑TUM, e‑nvest, e‑Shop, Trajectory 2030)
  • Improve data quality in the asset inventory in the ERP system and telematics systems, enabling more accurate equipment performance reporting.
  • Enhance maintenance planning and cost control through driving the roll out of CMMS.
  • Drive proactive performance management using leading and lagging key performance indicators.
  • Support sustainability objectives, including fuel usage and carbon tracking; maintaining the Trajectory 2030 tool.
  • Strengthen engagement and capability of Plant & Transport, and Operational teams in using digital systems.
  • Maintain dashboards and visual management tools (e.g., Power BI), ensuring accurate and consistent data already in use across group.
  • Work closely with the central Data & Digital Innovation team to remove single points of failure.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital Tools, Data & Performance

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of plant and fleet management systems, including OCE and all Colas Equipment Performance Department digital tools, as well as Telematics systems.
  • Assist in configuring, testing, and optimising the systematic use of CMMS across the UK equipment operations.
  • Develop dashboards and visual management tools (e.g., Power BI), ensuring accurate and consistent data.
  • Collect, validate, and analyse equipment data (utilisation, downtime, cost, fuel usage) to generate actionable insights.
  • Upload equipment branch budgets to the ERP system to enable improved financial performance monitoring through e‑fleet.

Maintenance & Operational Performance

  • Support work order processes for maintenance planning, scheduling, and cost tracking.
  • Work with workshops and operational teams to improve maintenance processes, compliance, and asset reliability.
  • Monitor performance trends and identify opportunities to optimise plant utilisation and lifecycle performance.

Engagement, Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide training and support to operational teams on digital tools and best practices, acting as a link between technical and site teams.
  • Support equipment related projects, including installations, commissioning, and performance tracking.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including cost optimisation, fuel usage, and carbon tracking aligned to OCE and wider business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel); Microsoft Power Platform experience desirable.
  • Basic understanding of SQL, data structures, and data integration concepts (e.g., APIs) is advantageous.
  • Awareness of digital tools used in operational or industrial environments (e.g., plant, fleet, or maintenance systems / platforms).
  • Understanding of data lifecycle, governance, and performance reporting principles.
  • Exposure to process improvement or digital delivery methodologies (e.g., Lean, Agile) is beneficial.
  • Strong digital literacy across Microsoft 365 tools.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience (academic, placement, or internship) using data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, DAX, Excel) to build dashboards and reports.
  • Understanding of data management principles, including data quality, governance, and structured reporting.
  • Familiarity with operational or maintenance systems (e.g., plant, fleet, or works management systems / tools) is desirable.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate data clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to the full data lifecycle, from data capture and validation through to insight and reporting (desirable).
  • Awareness of process improvement, continuous improvement, or digital transformation methodologies (e.g., Lean, Agile) is beneficial.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to digital, data, or operational projects.
