This role works within the shipping unit of our contract logisitcs site in Yeovil.

The selected candidate will manage the Shipping Department, encompassing both Import and Export operations, while maintaining defined processes, achieving service level and performance targets and delivering continuous operational and sustainable business improvements.

How you create impact Ensure import/export operations comply with customs, trade, export control, and customer requirements.

Monitor team productivity, KPIs, and service levels, implementing corrective actions when performance falls below target.

Identify operational risks and process bottlenecks, driving continuous improvement to reduce delays and increase efficiency.

Oversee shipping priorities, escalation management, and recovery plans for critical or late shipments to minimize customer impact.

Maintain accurate reporting, work instructions, and process documentation, ensuring compliance and operational control.

Lead compliance activities including audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventive/corrective actions.

Manage and develop teams through coaching, performance reviews, training, succession planning, recruitment, and employee relations processes.

Build strong stakeholder and customer relationships, lead operational reviews, support projects and audits, analyze performance data, and identify cost‑saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.

What we would like you to bring At least 5 years working in a shipping environment.

A sound educational background. 5 A*-Cs including Maths and English at GCSE A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.

Good interpersonal and team skills and the ability to communicate and interact with staff at all levels within the company.

Computer literate and competent in using company standard PC software packages and SAP.
