Your Role
Working Pattern: We operate 24/7 roles available on permanent days 4 on 4 off, and permanent nights 4 on 4 off. As a Shunter Driver, your primary objective is to facilitate the movement of trailers and containers within logistics yards of facilities. Your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the supply chain by efficiently positioning trailers for loading and unloading, as well as organising them for onward transportation. Your role is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of logistics processes and supporting the timely delivery of goods to customers.
Your Responsibilities
- Vehicle checks are carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook or maintenance schedule relevant to the vehicle being checked.
- Ensuring vehicles, prior to departure, are correctly loaded and that the load is secured.
- Periodic checks are to be made during the journey.
- Ensuring the safe movement of large vehicles and trailers around the operational site.
- Shunter movements include the docking and undocking of both our own fleet and customer trailers, that are ready for inspection.
- Oncoming vehicles that are ready for inspection fall into the shunter\’s duties to ensure they are docked following the site process.
- Adhering to strict health and safety guidelines & completing safety assessments.
- Ensuring handover procedures are correctly implemented when passing goods on to other workers.
- Ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles between parking bays and loading bays.
- Report any vehicle accidents and mechanical defects.
Your Skills and Experiences
- Previous experience as a shunter driver or in a similar role within the logistics industry is preferred.
- Proficient driving skills, especially in manoeuvring large vehicles in tight spaces.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols and regulations.
- Commitment to complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to shunting operations, vehicle maintenance, and documentation.
- LGV licence.
- Must have the ability to accurately position trailers and navigate in tight spaces, requiring keen attention to detail.
