The night shift Team Leader is responsible for supervising a team during overnight operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with company standards. They coordinate tasks, monitor performance, resolve issues in real time, and provide guidance and support to team members. The role often includes managing shift handovers, maintaining productivity targets, handling escalations, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and operational procedures while the main daytime leadership team is off-site.
The Warehouse Night Shift Team Leader is a first line management role with responsibility for a team of warehouse operatives, ensuring that customer freight is loaded and unloaded safely and in accordance with appropriate KN Overland work instructions and strategies. As part of the leadership team you are required to communicate effectively with your teams in order to ensure they understand process/current priorities, are aware of new initiatives and alert to safety or quality issues.
Shifts: Mon to Fri 10pm to 6.30am
How you create impact:
- Operations: Ensure that freight is loaded, unloaded and administered in accordance with the warehouse operational procedures and within the defined timeframe.
- People: Ensure that their teams are competent and regularly updated on performance, safety and other relevant issues. Carry out investigations and counselling in line with KN policies to support the Shift Manager.
- Compliance: Management of warehouse resources in accordance with KN procedures and the Law. Particular care should be taken to ensure that Dangerous Goods are administered and loaded in a compliant manner.
- Facility: Maintain a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping in the Warehouse and report directly to the FM of any immediate facilities faults.
- QSHE: Ensure that colleagues work safely and in accordance with work instructions appropriate for the tasks that they are engaged in. Ensure that near misses and accidents are accurately reported.
- Metrics: Required to achieve targets for productivity and quality in order to contribute to the achievement of Warehouse KPIs and SLAs.
- Communication: Conduct daily reviews/briefings with the warehouse team and ensure that all relevant information is cascaded to the appropriate recipients effectively and that the delivery is timely and accurate.
- Succession Planning: Identify talent at warehouse operative level and bring to the attention of the Shift Managers. Deputise for Warehouse Shift Managers when required.
What we would like you to bring:
- Team Leader/First Line management experience in a fast moving logistics environment.
- A need to be flexible with working hours, including overtime to suit operational and business needs.
- High level of Numeracy, Literacy and IT skills, in particular in the Microsoft Suite. Internal training and support will be given.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Leadership and influencing skills to achieve results.
- Team working and customer focused attitude.
- NEBOSH/IOSH qualification (Desirable, but will be mandatory once in role).
- NVQ Level 2 Warehousing/CILT Level 3 or 5 (Desirable, but opportunity to gain once in role).
