Main Purpose of the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated solicitor to join our Property, Planning & Infrastructure team within the Council’s Legal and Governance Services. The successful applicant will be appointed to the relevant grade (either TL10 - Solicitor or TL11 – Senior Solicitor) based on skills and experience aligned to the career grade structure.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high quality legal services that support the Council’s strategic objectives. You will work closely with a range of professionals across the Council, supporting its various roles, including as housing authority, roads authority, planning authority, environmental health and flooding, as well as its corporate and democratic functions.
You will be required to undertake commercial property work including all aspects of leasing, sales and acquisitions and compulsory purchase and/or contract drafting and negotiation as well as advising on a range of regulatory work and other aspects of the Council’s roles and responsibilities. You may be asked to support major infrastructure and other capital projects.
This is an opportunity to join an experienced team of property, commercial and regulatory solicitors. You will be part of a supportive and dynamic team and service, which is committed to delivering high quality advice and support.
There would be an opportunity for applicants interested in acquiring knowledge of, and experience in construction law. This could extend to post qualifying construction law accreditation, for which appropriate time and support would be provided. The Council is promoting an ambitious programme of construction work and projects from which practical experience could be gained.

Skills & Experience Required
- LLB Degree, Diploma in Legal Practice, Practicing Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland.
- You must be a qualified solicitor in Scotland, with a full, unrestricted practising certificate issued by the Law Society of Scotland.
- You will be flexible and able to think creatively to support clients.
- You must be able to demonstrate an ability to find solutions to problems.
- You will be able to work collaboratively and closely with those from other disciplines.
- You should have strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills and be able to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines.
