We have an exciting new opportunity within our payroll team to lead and deliver high quality payroll services across the service line, driving excellence through effective team management and ensuring all payroll work is completed accurately, on time, to the highest standards, and within budget.
About the role
We are looking for a motivated professional to manage and deliver payroll services across a varied client portfolio. You will work closely with partners, colleagues across the service line, and client contacts, ensuring strong relationships and seamless delivery of payroll services. You will be responsible for the supervision of Payroll Advisers, semi-seniors and assistants, ensuring effective workflow, clear accountability, and high-quality output across all payroll activity.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and oversee client payroll work across an allocated portfolio, extending support during peak periods
- Ensure completion of payroll processing, RTI reviews, pension uploads, payroll logs and action logs
- Escalate complex payroll issues to Assistant Manager level or above where required
- Monitor workflow and maintain clear communication with clients and internal stakeholders at all stages
- Support billing processes, WIP reviews, write-offs and ensure accurate and timely client invoicing
- Ensure appropriate partner/director sign-off for relevant documents and submissions
- Act as a key client contact for payroll queries and service delivery
- Support onboarding of new payroll clients (including AML and employment legislation requirements for smaller clients)
- Attend client meetings and manage client communications, ensuring timely responses and clear expectations
You will also play a key leadership role by:
- Supervising, mentoring and supporting Payroll Advisers and Assistants
- Setting clear action plans, milestones and expectations for payroll delivery
- Providing feedback, coaching and knowledge sharing to support team development
- Supporting payroll software training and acting as a buddy for new starters
In addition, you will contribute to business growth by:
- Supporting fee targets through networking, meetings and relevant webinars
- Building internal relationships across service lines to identify cross-referral opportunities
