We are looking for a Facility Engineer to join our team in Biggleswade with a strong mechanical and/or electrical bias to support our outbound operation. This role is critical in ensuring operational continuity during peak outbound hours (14:00 – 22:00), minimising downtime, and maintaining the performance of automated systems. A fixed shift pattern of 14:00 – 22:00 is preferred; however, a weekly rotational shift of 05:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 22:00 is an option.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, supporting operational teams, and driving a proactive approach to fault identification and resolution. There will also be a requirement for basic buildings / facility maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-shift engineering support to outbound operations (14:00 – 22:00).
  • Ensure minimal operational downtime through rapid response and effective troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and replenish box machines to ensure continuous production flow.
  • Identify, diagnose, and fix equipment faults in a timely manner.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to management in a structured and prompt way.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address potential risks.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the facility.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure alignment and efficient workflow.
Qualifications
  • Experienced Facility or Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical / electrical background.
  • Skilled in fault‑finding within fast‑paced automated environments, ideally with conveyors or packaging systems.
  • Strong problem‑solver who works well under pressure and values health & safety.
  • Team player with good communication skills and a flexible approach to cover operational needs.
  • Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, and maintenance reporting systems.
  • FMCG experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience working with conveyor systems and automated box machines (or similar packaging systems).
  • Ability to fault‑find in fast‑paced, automated environments.
