Overview

In this senior MLRO role, you will lead financial crime compliance across two UK entities within the Kraken group, shaping the AML/CTF and sanctions framework.

You will provide strategic and operational guidance on risk, controls, and monitoring, ensuring regulatory alignment and effective oversight of customer screening and reporting.

You will drive cross‑functional initiatives, engage with regulators, and deliver board‑level insights to strengthen the firm’s financial crime posture.

This role offers impact at a global crypto/fintech scale with exposure to regulatory innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee AML/CTF and sanctions frameworks across two UK entities
  • Develop and maintain AML/CTF policies and procedures to meet UK requirements
  • Oversee transaction monitoring, SAR reporting, and escalations
  • Manage CDD/EDD, enhanced monitoring, and sanctions screening for the UK
  • Approve new high risk clients and periodic reviews of existing high risk relationships
  • Maintain and update financial crime risk assessments
  • Provide expert AML/sanctions guidance across customer lifecycle
  • Coordinate internal assurance, audits, and regulatory reviews
  • Deliver training on financial crime responsibilities
  • Prepare regular management reports and MI for senior leadership and board
  • Lead monthly UK corporate client reviews and annual MLRO board report
  • Review monthly AML MI and escalate issues to the Board
  • Attend committee and board meetings and support executive decisions
  • Lead strategic AML initiatives (e. g., Travel Rule) and horizon scan regulatory changes
  • Liaise with law enforcement and regulatory authorities when required
  • Engage with FCA supervisory team and support LEAs as needed
  • Be the Po C for NCA and LEA collaboration
  • Key requirements
  • Significant AML/CTF and financial crime compliance experience in a regulated financial services firm
  • Deep knowledge of UK AML Regulations, POCA, UK sanctions (OFSI), and JMLSG guidance
  • Proven track record managing transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and CDD/EDD systems
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable policies and controls
  • Confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders and represent the firm externally
