Kraken, a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system, is building a new team called Kraken Utilities. The team supports the Kraken platform across water, broadband, and energy sectors, delivering customer information systems, billing, meter data management, CRM, and AI‐driven communications.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Kraken Utilities team, solving complex design challenges in the UK utilities market and building scalable components for the platform.

What you'll do:

  • Address difficult design challenges in the complicated, outdated UK utilities market, ensuring accurate domain modelling.
  • Help build and scale the Kraken utilities team by embedding an engineering, problem‐solving, and customer‐first culture.
  • Architect and develop new platform components to serve water, broadband, and other utilities.
  • Solve technical challenges such as processing tens of millions of meter readings per day and feeding data into a ML pipeline that models and predicts consumption.
  • Explore opportunities for disruption in the UK water and broadband markets, adapting Kraken to improve services.
  • Contribute to our climate‐change mission, supporting our largest solar and wind investments and helping consumers adopt greener technology.

What you'll need:

  • General interest in technology and problem‐solving; diligent and thoughtful mindset.
  • Experience with Python, Django (or equivalent web framework), domain modelling, HTTP and REST APIs.
  • Ability to write robust, fault‐tolerant software and use Celery for asynchronous processing.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.

Bonus skills:

  • AWS services and infrastructure tooling (Terraform, Packer, Consul).
  • Front‐end frameworks such as React and Redux.

Location: London office, hybrid remote policy – 1–2 days per week onsite. Candidates must be able to work in the UK.
