We\’re looking for a diligent and thoughtful Lead Security Engineer to join and help lead our growing security team. The role will involve managing 4-6 Security Engineers, contributing to team strategy, and hands-on work. The team’s goal is to maintain and improve security across Kraken Technologies.
The Security Engineering team conducts hands-on engineering to develop internal tools, improve platform and application security, provide security guidance across the business, and maintain security tooling following best practices.
What you\’ll do: Team Leadership
- Own a functional team within the Cyber Security Team, working with the CISO and Head of Cyber Security to define goals and strategy.
- Manage team priorities and ensure initiatives meet deadlines.
- Collaborate with other security teams to deliver outcomes.
- Lead major security initiatives with clear timelines.
- Foster a positive, open communication culture within the team.
What you\’ll do: People Management
- Line-manage Security Engineers in the same or similar timezone.
- Set clear performance expectations and goals.
- Review performance regularly, providing constructive feedback.
What you\’ll do: Technical Delivery
- Implement technical improvements.
- Support team delivery through code reviews, research, and architectural guidance.
- Support production systems owned by your team.
- Implement security processes and requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging security threats, technologies, and trends.
What you\’ll have:
- Proven leadership experience in Security Engineering or related field.
- Strong security engineering background with knowledge of best practices and standards.
- Excellent, asynchronous communication skills.
- Experience mentoring and coaching teams.
- Experience incident management.
- Experience working with security in Cloud Service Providers and applications.
What will help:
- Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, etc.).
- Certifications from cloud providers.
- Security qualifications (degrees, apprenticeships).
- Skills in creating comprehensive security documentation.
- Familiarity with AWS security services.
- Experience with CI/CD security practices.
- Knowledge of vulnerability management and automation.
- Experience with logging and monitoring tools.
- Experience with ISO 27001, SOC 1, SOC 2 certifications.
- Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
