We are seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between Engineering and Production, ensuring our products are designed and developed with efficient, robust and scalable manufacturing processes in mind.
Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will support products throughout their lifecycle, from prototype development through to production maturity, driving manufacturing readiness, continuous improvement and industrialisation activities.
- Supporting Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) activities to optimise products for efficient and scalable production.
- Owning manufacturing design activities from prototype through to production.
- Developing and maintaining engineering drawings, CAD models and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Designing production tooling, jigs, fixtures and assembly aids to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Working closely with Design, Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Supporting root cause investigations, DFMEA/PFMEA activities and corrective actions.
- Creating and maintaining manufacturing documentation, work instructions and technical specifications.
- Supporting engineering change management activities and assessing manufacturing impact.
- Providing hands‑on support during prototype, pilot and production builds.
- Driving improvements in quality, cost, delivery and safety across manufacturing operations.
- Supporting the growth and development of Kraken's manufacturing capability.
Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Marine Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline.
Experience in a Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Product Development role.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA).
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software and engineering drawing production.
- Experience with Siemens NX would be advantageous.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and assembly techniques.
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Understanding of engineering tolerancing and manufacturing constraints.
- Practical, hands‑on engineering approach.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Experience within maritime, defence, aerospace, automotive or advanced manufacturing sectors.
- Knowledge of production tooling and assembly processes.
- Understanding of Root Cause Analysis and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and engineering change control processes.
- Experience with digital manufacturing tools, MES platforms or electronic work instructions.
- Knowledge of composite structures or low‑volume, high‑complexity manufacturing environments.
