The Role:

Based at our Christchurch site, you will maintain a large ammonia refrigeration plant and ensure our operations comply with all Wattie’s Food Safety, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Ethical policies, programs, and goals.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Complete tasks to ensure the engine room refrigeration is running efficiently.
  2. Complete maintenance in a safe and timely manner.
  3. Supervise staff and contractors in the ammonia plant room from time to time.
  4. Safely evacuate plant/pipework for maintenance.
  5. Assist electrical staff in plant room areas and be on call 24/7 when required.
  6. Complete weekly safety alarm testing.
  7. Carry out computer work regarding SOPs & TRAs for future training.
  8. Ensure all compressors have sufficient oil/top-up.
  9. Assist shift fitters with setup and operation.
  10. Perform daily defrosting of all stores to ensure temperatures are within specifications.
  11. Assist Production and Engineering when required.
  12. Complete any other tasks as requested.

Your Skills:

  1. Completed an apprenticeship in industrial refrigeration (Ammonia).
  2. An understanding of factory operation and layout, specifically of the plant room.
  3. Sound knowledge of H&S (e.g., H&S rep for Engineering).
  4. Practical and mechanical skills and experience, including the ability to read drawings.
  5. Experience in heavy machinery operation.
