KPMG Law Overview

KPMG Law is a disrupter in legal services, offering legal advisory services combined with new law and technology-driven offerings, and multi-disciplinary solutions within a leading global professional services firm. The KPMG Law global network comprises over 2700 lawyers in 80+ jurisdictions.

What KPMG Law is looking for from its lawyers:

  • An entrepreneurial self-starter who is excited by the opportunity to provide legal services in a different environment and manner to a traditional commercial law firm as part of a fully integrated multi-disciplinary practice.
  • Commercially minded and keen to become a more rounded business adviser focused on delivering a great service to clients.
  • A driven and proactive team player who enjoys working with people from different backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Keen to assist with the development of junior team members.
  • A relationship builder who can spot and develop new opportunities and client relationships both within the KPMG network and externally.
  • High level of technical knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Intellectually curious, open-minded and analytical people, with an eye for detail and pride in their work.

Employment Law Team

The Employment Law Team comprises 15 team members who regularly work with a wide cross-section of the KPMG client-facing business. The team is growing fast, having increased from 1 to 3 Partners in the past 18 months. The team undertakes a variety of work with a focus on workforce and pay compliance, workforce change, general HR/ER advisory work, and global employment projects.

Experience Required:

It is expected that the successful applicant will have significant relevant experience with the majority of their career spent at a reputable practice in a well-regarded Employment team. KPMG is looking for a confident client-facing employment lawyer with strong technical, supervision, and relationship-building skills. The applicant must have strong skills in proactively managing matters and driving them forward effectively.

The applicant will be experienced in working on complex and high-value employment law matters and will be the key employment law contact for a number of large clients. They may have some experience in supervising more junior team members and will have demonstrated excellent business development skills through cross-selling and winning work using their own initiative. They should have experience in presenting to clients, training colleagues, and leading pitches and proposals.

The applicant should have a good understanding of how to ensure that work is carried out profitably and with due consideration of risk. Experience of advising alongside other professionals (such as tax or immigration advisers) and of running the employment work-stream on cross-border transactions would be valuable.

Ideally, the successful applicant will have advised on (or be keen to upskill on) the employment law aspects of:

  • Change projects
  • Redundancy
  • TUPE
  • Changing Ts and Cs
  • Gender pay gap projects and equal pay audits
  • National minimum wage
  • Employment status reviews
  • Intra-group transfers of employees including international assignments
  • Investigations/ER advisory

Experience of project management and co-ordination of multi-jurisdictional projects is also invaluable. This is a growing team and the role will suit an aspiring, technically excellent employment lawyer with the desire and ability to work closely with the Partners and Director in helping to lead that growth.
