Overview

A key focus for KPMG\’s GCT team is to help multinational groups and financial services clients manage their global tax compliance, reporting and statutory accounting obligations, through outsourcing, co-sourcing, transformation and technology.

Our Corporate Tax Compliance business is made up of a dedicated and enthusiastic team of Corporate Tax Compliance specialists working with our cutting-edge technology platform and our advisory teams to provide a first-class service to our diverse client base which includes global and large domestic compliance clients with complex and interesting tax profiles. We are growing quickly, so it\’s an exciting time to join the team.

We are now looking for talented Assistant Managers. The successful candidate will have UK Corporate Tax Compliance experience, be able to build strong relationships and provide excellent client service. This is a great opportunity to gain experience where you can learn and develop as part of a strong and supportive team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a portfolio of clients and take responsibility for ensuring the tax computations are prepared to a high standard, on a timely basis and finalised and submitted to HMRC within agreed deadlines.
  • Act as one of the main points of contact on your portfolio of clients on day-to-day tax matters, working with Managers and Senior Managers.
  • Oversee the work of junior colleagues, providing coaching and technical guidance as part of the overall review process.
  • Ensuring that clients are kept up to date on developments within Corporate Tax that may be relevant for their businesses.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, working with Managers to prepare technical analysis and involve specialists as appropriate to prepare or review analysis.
  • Respond to client requests for ad hoc technical advice and working with KPMG specialist teams to deliver an excellent and co-ordinated service to the client.
  • Build and develop positive constructive relationships within your team and across your client base.
  • Opportunities to support clients with their group reporting needs and assist with tax audit work.
  • Coaching, career management and technical support for junior team members.
  • Follow KPMG best practice and policy.

Knowledge and Experience

  • UK Corporation Tax experience including reviewing computations and returns and acting as a client liaison through the compliance process.
  • Experience/awareness of specific technical areas including complex capital versus revenue treatment; pension scheme and share scheme adjustments; group relief; basic transfer pricing; tax accounting for single entities and groups; controlled foreign companies and corporate interest restriction.
  • Ability to analyse problems, identify core issues and demonstrate curiosity around new ideas approaches and perspectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Take personal responsibility and accountability for own work.
  • Sustain a high level of drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude that translates across the team.
  • Excellent teamwork and organisational skills, including monitoring timetables and budgets.
  • Display an inclusive, collaborative approach and operates in a respectful manner with colleagues, clients and the wider community.

Areas of focus

  • BEPs: Help clients transform their operating model, processes, systems, data in preparation for Pillar 2
  • Managed Services: Provide compliance services to global clients across a range of tax, accounting, transfer pricing obligations under a managed service arrangement
  • Technology: Help clients leverage the right technology, tools and platforms to transform their tax function
  • Tax Operating Model: Collaborate with clients to build and operate a leading tax function, managing tax risk, opportunities, reputation and compliance
  • Data Management: Support client tax teams to maximise the use of data available in the organisation in order to effectively manage the Tax Function

Qualifications, Skills & Experience across the Team

At assistant manager level you will have strong communication skills both internally and externally, drive forward propositions and key initiatives, effectively prioritise and have strong financial management. You will demonstrate resilience, flexibility, be experienced in developing others and managing engagements, be able to confidently engage with clients and drive results.

We would welcome applications from those qualified by experience, as well as ATT / CTA / ACA or equivalent qualifications. Project Management qualifications along with specific transformation skills (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) are also welcome. Further skills and experience are outlined below:

  • BEPs: We are recruiting individuals with tax technical skills and Pillar 2 awareness to support with transformation opportunities that exist with clients and targets. Key stills required include confidence in being able to articulate Pillar 2 impact on compliance and reporting and associated transformation necessary. Transformation upskilling will be provided.
  • Managed Services: We are recruiting individuals experienced in leading the overall delivery of global or large UK tax, accounting, compliance and reporting projects. We would welcome applicants that are skilled in one or more of the following areas – tax reporting, tax audits, transfer pricing, direct/indirect tax and statutory accounting along with project management or experience of managing multi-jurisdictional projects, transition and transformation experience.
  • Technology Transformation: We are recruiting individuals with experience of leading technology solutions projects as well as driving new opportunities across Corporates and/or Financial Services. We would welcome applicants qualified by experience in financial and trading systems, ERP and tax technology solutions (e.g. FICO qualified, Thomson Reuters Certified Implementer).
  • Tax Operating Model: We are recruiting individuals with broad experience in the Tax Operating Model space. Experience of designing, building and managing various aspects of Tax Operating Model, including tax transformation, compliance and reporting managed services & co-sourcing, tax process design and tax governance is all highly valued. We would welcome applicants with skills and experience in designing and implementing tax strategies and establishing target operation models for tax functions.
  • Data Management: We are recruiting individuals with varied experiences such as:
    • Deploying data focused solutions that enable automation
    • Implementation and configuration of technology
    • Experience with Azure data lakes and similar technologies

Experience within the statutory and tax space is helpful but not mandatory.
