The SAP Technology and Platform Architect will be responsible for the technical design, architecture, and oversight of SAP solutions across various deployment models, including on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud environments. This role involves translating complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions, ensuring adherence to architectural best practices and leveraging SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) for extensibility and integration. The architect will provide expert guidance on technical constraints, integration patterns, security, and performance optimization, while also assessing the technical impact of continuous innovation cycles and system updates across diverse landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical architecture design and solutioning for SAP implementations across on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud environments, ensuring alignment with client requirements and SAP best practices.
- Provide expert guidance on the technical constraints and capabilities of each SAP deployment model (on-premise, private cloud, public cloud), including considerations for customization, configuration, and extensibility.
- Design and implement integration patterns between SAP systems (S/4HANA, ECC) and external platforms, including SAP BTP, Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions, third-party systems, and hybrid landscapes.
- Champion clean core principles and advise on appropriate extensibility options, including Key User Extensibility, SAP BTP side‑by‑side extensions, and RESTful ABAP Programming, tailored to the specific deployment model.
- Develop and enforce technical standards, security guidelines, and performance optimization strategies for SAP solutions in on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud environments.
- Conduct technical impact assessments for quarterly cloud release cycles, continuous innovation delivery, and system upgrades, advising on necessary adjustments and mitigation strategies for all deployment models.
- Collaborate with functional teams, development teams, and client stakeholders to ensure technical designs support business processes and operational requirements across the chosen deployment landscape.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and adherence to architectural standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in SAP S/4HANA across all deployment options: on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud editions.
- Proven experience in SAP technical architecture, encompassing cloud platform limitations, clean core principles, and side‑by‑side extensibility options relevant to each deployment model.
- In-depth knowledge of SAP solution architecture, covering integration patterns, security, performance optimization, and fit-to-standard approaches across on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud landscapes.
- Cross-platform integration expertise with SAP BTP, Identity and Access Management, third-party systems, and hybrid landscapes.
- Strong understanding of technical limitations and considerations for each deployment model, including customization options, scope item restrictions, and mandatory processes.
- Experience with quarterly cloud release cycles, continuous innovation delivery, and technical impact assessment for system updates in cloud environments, as well as managing upgrades and maintenance in on-premise systems.
- Knowledge of cloud extensibility options through Key User Extensibility, SAP BTP side‑by‑side extensions, and RESTful ABAP Programming, alongside traditional ABAP development for on-premise.
- Proficiency in cloud and on-premises infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud migration strategies.
- Knowledge of major cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and their relevance to SAP deployments.
- Experience:
- Extensive SAP technical experience, with significant time focused on SAP architecture across various deployment models.
- Completed at least 2-3 full lifecycle SAP implementations (greenfield or brownfield) or significant cloud migration projects across on-premise, private cloud, or public cloud.
- Experience in leading technical workshops and presenting complex architectural concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to define technical requirements and create detailed technical specifications and architectural blueprints for multi-faced SAP landscapes.
