As one of the UK's leading audit and advisory firms, you will provide high level support as a Team Leader in the Payroll Department, part of KPMG Business Services. This role covers all aspects of the monthly payroll run and includes performance management responsibilities for part of the payroll team. KPMG payroll pays almost 17,000 people each month, and the Team Leader plays a critical part in ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time. The Payroll Department is part of the Finance team and is responsible for the regular monthly payment of over 16,500 employees based in the UK. The team currently has 12 permanent staff.
What will you be doing?
- Assume primary responsibility for half of the payroll administrators, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time
- Maintain awareness of current and future PAYE developments; keep up to date with changes affecting employees, payroll software, and related policy decisions
- Audit payroll processes to ensure compliance with governing bodies (e.g., HMRC, TPR)
- Own the Pension process and work collaboratively with the pension team
- Collaborate with other KBS teams to ensure timely and accurate data flow supporting payroll and related processes
- Resolve payroll queries in a timely and satisfactory manner
- Answer general employee queries regarding monthly payments and tax status within SLA to a high standard
- Investigate complex payroll queries requiring expert PAYE knowledge
- Provide specific payroll calculations for staff changes due to personal circumstances (e.g., parental leave, flexible working)
- Work as part of a team to model best practice in payroll, share knowledge, and support the Payroll Manager as required
- Maintain regular 1:1 coaching and development for direct reports
- Contribute to the knowledge base of current procedures, rules and policies to ensure accurate guidance
What will you need to do it?
- Payroll experience, ideally with people management / leadership
- Excellent computer literacy with advanced knowledge of payroll software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Initiative and ability to cope with fluctuating workloads while prioritising tasks
- Confidence dealing with multiple stakeholders
- Customer service, resilience, task management, and initiative are essential
- CIPP qualification is desirable but not essential
