The Team

Our Dispute Advisory team helps clients to establish the facts in relation to an incident, loss or misconduct and then to remediate and recover value. We are experienced in managing diverse issues including fraud and misconduct, regulatory compliance, risk frameworks and modelling and much more.

The Role

As a Director and Engagement Leader, we expect you to lead and successfully deliver challenging and complex engagements. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage stakeholders and deliver quality solutions to our clients. You will be expected to originate opportunities through both internal and external relationships and take the lead on business development activities, including marketing, knowledge sharing and practice development.

You will have a primary focus on developing and leading Dispute Advisory services, although you may also be involved in other types of dispute engagements. You will be responsible for leading an area of Dispute Advisory (to be determined based on skillset/experience) and originating work related thereto:

  • Leading Forensic Dispute Advisory engagements, providing advice and support in connection with breach of contract, transaction, warranty and completion accounts, expert determinations, expropriations, product recall, and business disruption and other insurance claims.
  • Leveraging your profile in the market in order to be a credible Expert on disputes where KPMG may be approached to carry out expert determinations/provide expert opinions.
  • Leverage existing external network with legal contacts (and/or other relevant contacts as appropriate) to help secure the pipeline of future projects.
  • Building internal relationships with relevant teams to help secure the pipeline of future projects.
  • Playing a leading role in developing and maintaining the Dispute Advisory proposition as part of Forensic.
  • Review of work of team members and preparation of finalised versions of reports for submission to client (or for Partner review as the context dictates).
  • Managing the risks and financials associated with client engagements.
  • Developing and overseeing career management for team members.

The Person

  • Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • Excellent accounting, analytical, problem-solving, organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with solid proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Extensive experience of Forensic Dispute Advisory work, be that either as part of the Expert Witness team (in a legal claim) or in the context of a post-M&A transaction expert determination.
  • A logical and methodical thinker, confident in interpreting the contractual wording of the price adjustment mechanism and leading the team in structuring and drafting complex and nuanced arguments in a way that is clear and persuasive.
  • Ability to review and challenge effectively drafts produced by team members.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading projects, including financial and risk management.
  • Experience in scoping and defining Forensic projects.
  • Commercial awareness and proven track record of managing the risks and financials associated with client engagements.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams.
  • Ability to articulate complex and technical findings in both written and oral presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, self-motivation and an enquiring mind.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
  • Confidence and ability to quickly establish credibility with clients and senior colleagues.
  • Confidence in challenging existing ways of working and ways of thinking.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent people skills, including an ability to inspire and develop junior colleagues.
  • A developed network of relevant internal and external contacts.
  • Experience in business development activities and an enthusiasm to get involved in marketing activity and in developing the practice.

In the area of Dispute Advisory, you will be expected to exemplify the following key skills:

  • Extensive experience of drafting and overseeing high-quality written reports in the context of expert witness/expert determination, advisory appointments and other alternatives as appropriate.
  • Extensive experience of reviewing supporting analysis underlying a claim, a dispute and a deliverable.
  • Extensive experience of reviewing and understanding a wide range complex concepts and documents as they pertain to the claim they are seeking to support.
  • Extensive experience of leading teams and developing and overseeing career management for team members.
  • Extensive network within the relevant markets such as law firms.
