KPMG's Turnaround team is the first line of response to opportunities arising from financial stress and distress. These situations require multi-capability teams to deliver a full client solution, where bringing the best of KPMG to clients is key to winning work. Turnaround works with regional and large corporate clients across the UK, pulling through expertise from all other service lines. A collegiate approach to work is therefore essential.
The team delivers a broad spectrum of work, including:
- Crisis cash / liquidity management
- Options reviews
- Refinancing
- Accelerated M&A
- Cash & working capital management
- Model review, data analytics and implementation
- Performance improvement
- Revenue optimisation, cost reduction and turnaround & transformation
- Economic profitability
- Cost allocation to give product, customer & channel profitability
- Helpline for general enquiries
- Credit insurance, rent arrears or a target, customer or supplier is in distress
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead on originations and developing deal flow, leveraging high-level personal and firm-wide networks to support lead generation
- Play a key role in furthering KPMG's strength in the regions while supporting other areas of the business with go-to-market and business development best practice / strategies
- Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including board of directors, advisors and other key stakeholders
- Communicate effectively across a range of operational and financial staff at all levels, often in challenging circumstances given the financial positions of Turnaround's clients
- Appraise challenging and fast-developing situations and look to develop innovative solutions and assess options for stakeholders
- Rigorous and efficient execution delivery of engagements and projects to scope, time, quality and budget complying with KPMG engagement management practices
- Build out the team providing ongoing coaching and regular high quality feedback
- The successful individual will be central to all key decision making and will play a vital role in the continued development and success of the team and wider deal advisory business
Qualifications
- Strong academic & technical background (ACA, CFA, MBA or equivalent)
- Strong numerical, analytical and strategic thinking skills and demonstrated experience of financial modelling
- Significant Turnaround and Restructuring experience within Big 4, boutique advisory practice, workout bank or as a CRO
- Significant business review and challenge expertise with a demonstrable execution record across all phases of the transaction cycle from origination to completion
- Demonstrable experience in leading multi-workstream advisory projects, including experience across turnaround, transformation and liquidity disciplines, in addition to balance sheet restructuring
- Experience at advising, working alongside and managing a range of stakeholders, including corporates, lenders, lawyers and internal KPMG stakeholders
- Proven track record in building, motivating and empowering teams of high calibre people
- Personal drive to deliver results and ambition to make an impact in a growing team
- Personable approach, possessing the ability to create confidence and trust with colleagues and clients alike
- Excellent communication skills with the authority and credibility to gain respect both internally and externally with people at all levels
