The Digital Transformation Domain is at the heart of our strategic vision, driving two major global investment programs: AI and Integrated Value Chain.
These initiatives are critical to accelerating business growth, enhancing operational efficiency, and unlocking new opportunities through cutting-edge technology and streamlined processes.
The role will sit in the Integrated Value Chain Centre of Excellence and play a key role in shaping the future to transform our business and deliver lasting impact.
Role summary
This role sits within the Global Solutions Domain within Digital Transformation organization in Global Digital with a remit to oversee the delivery of the Integrated Value Chain (IVC) programme.
We are seeking an experienced Application Architect for our global S/4 HANA public cloud solution, to evolve and govern the solution to be scalable, secure, compliant and aligned with enterprise standards to deliver business value.
- Key Accountabilities
- Solution Architecture & Design
- Develop & own end-to-end application architectures for the Global Engagement Management and Finance (S/4HANA) Programme that meets global business, security, regulatory, and performance requirements.
- Own & define application components, integration patterns, data flows, and deployment models.
Regularly present to the Global Digital Transformation Steerco, approve cross-region & cross-domain decisions and exceptions.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and design patterns aligned with enterprise strategies.
- Produce architecture artifacts such as context diagrams, logical/physical designs, API specifications, and integration blueprints.
- Defining key application capabilities and ensuring the S/4HANA public cloud solution design supports their realization.
- Ensure alignment of application architecture with the business architecture, enterprise architecture and technology strategy.
- Make decisions, ensuring technical excellence, versatility, safety and soundness, resiliency and scalability in the architecting and engineering of product solutions, as well as managing technical delivery.
- Chair Global Solution Architecture Design Board’s. Lead & influence on global standardization and local variations.
- Global Template Design & Governance
- Establish & own architectural standards, guardrails aligned with SAP S/4HANA best practices.
- Establish and manage design governance, ensuring consistency, scalability, and adherence to global standards.
- Ensure consistency and interoperability of applications across global regions and business units.
- Collaborate with regional SAP business architects and regional process owners to ensure solution integrity across modules and integrations.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Alignment
- Work with and influence executive Leadership including Member Firm COO’s, CFO’s & CIO’s, global and regional business architects, regional solution architects and regional business process owners to translate and align the S/4HANA transformation with business goals and operational realities.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle from concept to deployment.
- Facilitate architecture reviews, design workshops, and functional decision-making sessions.
- Technology Strategy
- Evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and tools to improve global application capabilities.
- Develop roadmaps and strategies for continuous improvements
- Evaluate and communicate new functionalities being released in the bi-annual product releases
- Support enterprise initiatives such as data and integration strategies and global AI strategies
- Quality, Security & Compliance
- Incorporate cybersecurity, compliance, and data governance requirements into application designs.
- Ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and aligned with SLAs, performance expectations, and best operational practices.
- Execute global processes designed to assess quality, security and compliance risks and plan mitigations.
Experience / Knowledge / Qualification
Essential
- Significant experience in a senior application architecture, business transformation, process architecture, or enterprise design — ideally within SAP S/4HANA programmes.
- Substantial amount of proven experience defining and governing global process models and application architecture frameworks across multiple geographies.
- Strong expertise in modern application platforms
- Experience designing distributed, global scale systems with high availability and performance.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes
- Demonstrated ability to operate across both strategic and hands-on delivery levels in a global programme context.
- Experience of managing FTE’s, contractors and onshore/offshore resources.
- Managed a domain budget of at least $3m
- Experience within a consulting or advisory environment, preferably within a Big 4 or equivalent.
- Experience working with SAP Activate or similar ERP delivery methodologies.
- Exposure to cloud-enabled business models, intelligent enterprise concepts
Technical Skills, abilities & qualifications
- Professional certifications (e. g., TOGAF, BCS Business Architecture, SAP S/4HANA certification, or equivalent) are advantageous.
- Strong department leader with skills in strategic planning, goal setting, processes development, budgeting, and creating opportunities for professional development within technology teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking abilities with a problem-solving aptitude.
- Solid understanding of broad technology trends and the ability to align innovation with business goals.
- Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills.
- Broad knowledge of software engineering: languages, frameworks, techniques, and industry trends with emphasis on Microsoft, SAP, Salesforce and Service Now technologies
- Able to conduct research and analyses of technology to help build vs buy decisions
- Knowledge of technology trends to help multiyear business strategy
