The Team
KPMG’s Tax & Legal practice is a dynamic and successful part of the firm, advising a diverse client base from PE-backed, owner-managed and family businesses through to UK listed and multinational groups across a wide range of sectors. Tax is an evolving, high-profile area that offers ambitious people varied, challenging and rewarding career paths. Within this practice, the Treasury Tax team is a growing specialist group providing technical support on deals, financing transactions, international structuring and other complex tax advisory matters. We work closely with Corporate Tax client service teams to deliver high quality advice that is practical, commercially focused and technically robust. The Treasury Tax team offers exposure to a broad range of clients and issues, with the opportunity to develop deep expertise in a complex and increasingly important area of tax.
The Role
This is an opportunity to join a growing specialist Treasury Tax team at an exciting stage in its development, working on complex financing, structuring and advisory matters across KPMG’s Corporate Tax practice. As a Manager in the team, you will help shape and deliver high-quality technical advice on a broad range of treasury tax matters, working alongside experienced specialists and client teams on work that is intellectually challenging, commercially important and often central to major transactions and business decisions. You will also have the chance to contribute to the continued growth of the Treasury Tax capability, sharing insight across the practice and building relationships with colleagues across the UK. The role offers flexibility around location and working pattern, with the individual potentially based in any of KPMG’s UK offices, albeit regular visits to London or Leeds would be preferable. Occasional travel to client or other KPMG offices may also be required. This role will suit a Manager looking to accelerate their career in a specialist, high-demand area of tax, or an ambitious Assistant Manager ready to take the next step. Strong technical skills, drive and curiosity are essential, together with the enthusiasm to help build something distinctive.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising Corporate Tax teams and clients on the UK’s loan relationships and derivative contracts regimes, including the Disregard Regulations, and related areas such as Corporate Interest Restriction, Anti-hybrids, Distributions and Withholding Tax.
- Providing specialist technical input on high-profile and varied projects, including M&A and deals work, debt restructuring and refinancing, audit engagements, tax authority enquiries and complex tax compliance and advisory matters.
- Carrying out detailed technical research and applying it to real business issues, helping client teams to deliver advice that is robust, practical and commercially relevant.
- Building strong relationships with Tax colleagues and other specialists across the UK, working collaboratively to deliver joined-up advice on complex client matters.
- Contributing to internal training, technical updates, knowledge-sharing initiatives and the development of practical resources for the wider Corporate Tax practice.
- Acting as a role model for KPMG’s values and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- ACA, CA, CTA, ACCA or equivalent qualified, with strong corporate tax and relevant accounting knowledge.
- Familiarity with the UK’s loan relationships and derivative contracts regimes, including the Disregard Regulations, and related treasury tax matters would be helpful, but a strong appetite to develop deep expertise in this area is equally important.
- A curious and analytical mindset, with the confidence to research complex technical points using legislation, case law and other relevant resources, and translate that analysis into clear, practical advice.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and a commercial approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify key issues, evaluate risk and know when to involve others.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues and specialists across different teams.
- The ability to manage multiple projects effectively, balancing commercial priorities and deadlines.
- A collaborative style and the enthusiasm to contribute to a growing specialist team.
