About the role

As a Tax Director in the US Practice, you will manage a complex client portfolio, advise clients on their tax affairs and help build a growing US tax practice within a Big Four firm. You will combine technical leadership, client management, people leadership and business development. You will also develop trusted relationships with third parties, including trustees and wealth managers, and support the onboarding of clients who need tailored tax advice.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the US tax practice, including relationships with professional intermediaries.
  • Lead on tax advisory projects and the tax compliance process, maintain quality standards and manage risk while delivering excellent client service.
  • Manage a complex client portfolio and provide clear, tailored advice on US and UK tax matters.
  • Lead client engagement and onboarding, build long-term relationships and ensure internal and external deadlines are met.
  • Manage, coach and develop team members across technical and professional skills.
  • Delegate work effectively, review outputs and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with specialists across the firm on areas including estate and gift tax, inheritance tax and corporate tax.
  • Lead scoping, quotations and final billing decisions, and support prompt payment and effective financial management.

Experience and skills needed

  • Experience managing complex client portfolios and delivering high-quality tax advice.
  • Strong knowledge of US tax compliance, including reviewing and signing US tax returns.
  • Working knowledge of relevant tax areas, such as CFCs, PFICs, estate and gift tax, inheritance tax and cross border interactions.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing colleagues while managing team priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters clearly.
  • Commercial judgement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to identify client needs and develop tailored solutions.

Qualifications required

  • Enrolled Agent (EA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification essential.
  • Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and/or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification desirable.
