Your future position as an Oil Market Data Analyst is responsible for owning and driving the quality, coverage, and development of Kpler’s dirty petroleum products (DPP) data (e.g. fuel oil, VGO, feedstocks, bitumen/asphalt) across key regions and flows. You will act as a data and market focal point, proactively identifying gaps, improving methodologies, and leading initiatives that enhance data quality and product value. This includes working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams, as well as mentoring more junior analysts.

Your mission is to:

  • Own end-to-end data quality and coverage for assigned DPP markets, flows, and geographies
  • Lead complex data investigations, identify root causes of discrepancies, and implement structural fixes
  • Perform and oversee large-scale data validation, ingestion, and backtesting against external benchmarks
  • Act as a Data Ops focal point for DPP, working closely with Data Scraping, Product, and Engineering teams
  • Proactively identify gaps in data coverage and drive initiatives to improve granularity and accuracy
  • Leverage market knowledge to challenge data, make informed assumptions, and guide corrections
  • Contribute to cross-product alignment (Flows, Refineries, S&D, Freight), ensuring consistency and integrity
  • Lead or contribute to medium-to-high complexity data/product initiatives and improvements
  • Support and mentor junior analysts, raising overall team capability
  • Engage with commercial teams (Sales/CS) to translate client feedback into actionable improvements

You could be a match if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Energy, Data Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in oil markets, with strong Crude or refined oil products exposure
  • Strong understanding of global trade flows, shipping, and refinery dynamics
  • Proven experience working with large, complex datasets and driving data quality improvements
  • Advanced data handling skills - Excel (Advanced), SQL (Intermediate), Python (Basic to intermediate)
  • Deep understanding of data flows, data processing, and validation methodologies
  • Strong data investigation and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Ability to translate market context into data driven decisions
  • Ability to operate autonomously and drive initiatives forward

Desirable:

  • Market knowledge of DPP flows, arbitrage, and infrastructure
  • Experience working with geospatial / satellite / vessel tracking data
  • Familiarity with data pipelines, scraping, or data architecture concepts
