At Kpler, we are dedicated to helping our clients navigate complex markets with ease. By simplifying global trade information and providing valuable insights, we empower organisations to make informed decisions in commodities, energy, and maritime sectors. Since our founding in 2014, we have focused on delivering top-tier intelligence through user-friendly platforms. Our team of over 700 experts from 35+ countries works tirelessly to transform intricate data into actionable strategies, ensuring our clients stay ahead in a dynamic market landscape.

Kpler’s Dry Bulk business unit is expanding its footprint in the Metals & Minerals sector. We are looking for a Market Data Analyst to take full ownership of our data quality and operations across ferrous and non-ferrous metals, solid fuels, and industrial minerals. You won't just be 'processing' numbers; you will be connecting live data points to real-world business impact, ensuring our technical outputs translate into actionable market intelligence for our clients. This role is designed for someone ready to take the next step in their career. As a foundational member of a fast-growing team and the department, you will have the opportunity to grow your leadership skills by overseeing 1–2 junior analysts and acting as the technical bridge between raw data feeds and the strategic insights our global clients rely on.

Your mission is to:

  • Data quality ownership: Take charge of specific regions and product groups, ensuring the highest standard of data quality by reviewing internal constraints, validating automated outputs, and ingesting data from diverse external sources.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify and implement technology and process improvements – including contributions to SQL queries, Python scripts, and pipeline tooling – to increase the efficiency and accuracy of our seaborne flow data.
  • Market monitoring: Track news, trade flows, and industry developments across metals and minerals markets. Extract meaningful patterns and ensure they are well reflected in our data product.
  • Client support: Lead responses to ad-hoc client requests (email, video call, in-person) with rapid, well-structured analysis. Partner with Sales and Customer Success teams to address client data needs and feed insights back into internal systems.
  • Systems thinking and product development: Engage proactively with the broader data architecture; understand how upstream data sources, internal systems, and client-facing solutions interact, and propose improvements that scale across the team.
  • Team contribution: Act as a knowledgeable and self-directed team member capable of picking up complex technical tasks independently and driving them to completion with minimal supervision.

Experience & Background

Essential:

  • Proven track record of working with large, disparate, or "messy" datasets - ideally within shipping, commodity trading, or supply chain analytics. You understand that data isn't just numbers; it represents physical goods moving across the globe.
  • Proven proficiency in querying and managing relational databases (PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or similar) combined with solid experience using Python to automate workflows. You are an expert at building and optimizing your own scripts to eliminate manual tasks.
  • Hands-on experience using REST APIs to ingest and process data feeds.
  • High level of competency in MS Excel for complex commercial modeling; you can bridge the gap between raw database outputs and client-ready spreadsheets.
  • Experience or a genuine curiosity about metals, minerals, and global supply chains. You don’t just find errors; you want to know why they happened.
  • You are looking for a role where you can mentor others.

Desirable:

  • Experience with seaborne commodity data (AIS tracking or port logs).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar.

Core Competencies

  • Data Integrity: You are capable of managing high-frequency data streams and identifying anomalies under tight deadlines.
  • Technical Automation Architect: You move beyond manual work. You are highly proficient in using SQL and Python in tandem to automate complex data workflows. You don’t just write scripts; you understand the impact they have; you build logical, scalable solutions that save significant time and effort.
  • Problem Solver: You spot the major anomalies that others miss. You are a natural problem solver who can identify potential solutions, weigh the trade-offs, and act decisively when issues impact client deliverables.
  • Business Acumen & Curiosity: You don’t just process numbers. You are driven by a desire to understand the "why" behind every data request. You use your understanding of business goals to prioritize your work and ensure that your analysis provides genuine commercial value.
  • Collaborative Communicator: You are the bridge between the technical and the commercial. You can translate complex technical scenarios into clear, simple language for non-technical stakeholders (like Sales or Clients) while managing expectations under tight deadlines.
